Meet Jenna Creed

Jenna Creed is Blue Jay Support Coordination’s Owner, Director and Lead Support Coordinator. She has multiple years of professional experience in the disability sector, and extensive practice in navigating the NDIS.

Prior to working as a Support Coordinator, Jenna was a Veterinary Nurse for 16 years. In 2018, she experienced a traumatic work-related injury after being bitten by a cat whilst performing her role. This caused a permanent impairment to her left hand and a long battle with chronic pain. Not only has she strived to work with and overcome her own physical limitations in order to return to functioning at full capacity, her journey has provided her with extensive lived experience of having to navigate the oftentimes confusing and overwhelming healthcare system in a range of areas, including, but not limited to, hospitals, rehabilitation centres and mental health care programs.  After making the decision to resign from the Veterinary Industry, she wanted to find a rewarding career in which she was able to channel this experience and assist others in overcoming their own physical and mental health barriers. She accidentally stumbled into the disability sector as a Support Coordinator, and she’s never looked back!

Currently studying a Bachelor of Counselling and Majoring in Mental Health and Art Therapy, Jenna has a passion for assisting to minimise as much of the complexity, overwhelm and exhaustion as possible for her participants and their families when navigating the NDIS. She understands that the overarching goal of a Support Coordinator is to empower her participants and their families with confidence and knowledge so that they will eventually be able to develop the skills they require to manage their own NDIS Plans in the future.

Let Blue Jay become part of your solution

Disability results from an interaction between a non-inclusive society and individuals living with functional, cognitive and mobility challenges; it is never about the person’s impairment itself.

An example of this is a person using a wheelchair. They may have difficulties gaining employment or accessing opportunities within the community, not because their wheelchair disables them, but because they are disabled by environmental barriers such as inaccessible staircases, public transport and/or lifts which impede their ability to access the same opportunities as an able-bodied person.

Ultimately, it is never a person’s diagnosis that disables them. Instead, it’s society’s ability to provide complete inclusivity and access to those who have an impairment that does the disabling. As a whole, society needs to work on changing our perspectives surrounding those with functional, cognitive and mobility challenges. We need to develop the skills, capacity and willingness to recognise and acknowledge the difficulties that those with these types of impairments face on a daily basis, as well as the barriers that continue to restrict them. Once we are able to do this as a collective, WE will become the solution to a problem faced by many.

Jenna's lived experience, coupled with her time working in the disability sector, has taught her that impairments are an expected occurrence of human diversity. As Support Coordinators, our aim is to seek out the barriers that restrict our clients and to constantly ask ourselves how we can become part of their solution.
